[00:00:03] Hey there and welcome to Better Blood Sugars with Delane, Maryland. So I have not recorded a podcast in so very long and I've done a lot of things over the summer and it's been a really amazing time and lots of changes in my life. [00:00:20] I want to get this last podcast, kind of rounding out of Better Blood Sugars with delanem D podcast recorded before the end of the year. [00:00:31] The podcasts will likely fall off and you may not have access to them after the end of 2025. So I read an article earlier in the year, so it was in probably May, I read an article in the Atlantic and it spoke about a variety of things as far as diet and health care goes and what we need to be healthy in America and what we need to really kind of change the food sourcing and situation in our country. [00:01:06] And it was a very interesting article. [00:01:08] It was in the Atlantic. It's a fellow, he has a book coming out. [00:01:13] I'll try to find his name. It's written in my notes. But either way, oh yes, here we go. It was an article by Michael Grunwald called Food Reckoning Is Coming. He has a book. It's we are Eating the Earth. And it's it really went through a lot of different things about like kind of environmentalism and how our food plays a role in environmental decline. You know, if you think that that's an issue or not. [00:01:38] And the part that really struck me and that I really want to share with you kind of as a closing bid for your health, is this article was really talking how do we find new green, green ways to make food for humans on this planet. And yes, there are many, many, many humans on this planet that do need food. They probably need higher quality food than maybe they're getting. [00:02:06] But in the last few years I heard a stat that in the most recent, like five to 10 years, we've actually, as a global population, surpassed the amount of people that are dying from obesity related illnesses, has surpassed the amount of people that are dying from starvation related illnesses. [00:02:29] And so when I read this article, it was very interesting and lots of great points were made. But one point in this article that was not made that I really want to share with you was really, as human beings, we need to be eating less. [00:02:43] We in this country, in at least the Western societies, have this opinion about food and being entitled to food and we deserve food and we deserve to have access to food. And yeah, none of us deserve to start starve and certainly none of us deserve to, you know, be abused in starvation situations, which is really what we see in the west, when there is starvation, it's usually an abuse case. It's not lack of access to food. Even the people at food lines, you know, when they're going to, you know, kitchens for people, you know, to feed people who haven't got food available to them. Those people even like they have diabetic foods for those people because we've eaten so much food that now we have this abnormal biology in the body. [00:03:28] So the one thing in this article that I found really interesting was that they never talked about, like they talked about, how do we make more food for humans? How do we make more food? How do we do it in a green way? How do we not impact our environment negatively? And it was really interesting. But the fact of the matter is we really need to eat less. [00:03:47] So today I come to you with nothing more exciting than old stories I've told you or old ideas I've told you and a lot of gratitude for years of engagement in this podcast. So really, humans out here need to eat less. All of us, human beings consume all that we need and likely more than we need, more than we need. [00:04:16] If you're looking to be healthy, if you're looking to reverse your diabetes, if you're looking to become metabolically healthy, you need two things. You need to change your diet, and you need to probably build more muscle for the most part. That's going to improve your metabolic condition. [00:04:34] We don't need more food. We don't need convenient food. [00:04:38] I truly believe that human beings were not meant to have over access to food. We don't need it to be convenient. [00:04:46] If you have to make your own food, if you have to hunt and gather your own food, chances are you're going to spend a lot less energy getting that food. Meaning that if you're not truly hungry, you're not going to spend energy to go get that food. [00:04:59] So in general, we really need to consume less. And so why put food into your body that makes you sick? So that you can pay the healthcare industry money to fix that illness. Let's stop doing that. Let's start eating food that matches our biology, that matches our cellular and our human biology. [00:05:23] Let's stop eating foods just because we're afraid we're going to be hungry when it's food that's going to make us sick. [00:05:30] That is truly, I think that in, you know, I said this in the past, that, you know, what's our natural weight? Our natural weight is what our weight would be if we were not eating food for any other reason than we biologically needed that food. We never need ice cream, tragic as it might be, we don't need that food. [00:05:49] We never need pop Tarts. We might need berries. We might need apples. We might need the fiber that's in fruits and vegetables. We probably need some protein that's in meat and eggs and nuts and Legum. Yeah, those things we actually biologically need. But there's actually not a biological need for Chips Ahoy cookies. [00:06:08] And so our natural weight would be our weight if we were eating food only for biology. Our natural health, kind of what we're meant to be, health wise, metabolically wise, would be what we would have for metabolism. If we were eating foods only that we need to feed our metabolism, that would remove a bunch of those foods that are really problematic. [00:06:30] What our muscle mass would be, what our aerobic capacity would be, is if we had to go and hunt and gather our own food, if we had to go and forage our own food, if we had to go and harvest our own food. I always jokingly say this to patients like rice was available 10,000 years ago. However, if you had to harvest your own rice, you would not eat as much because it's really burdensome to harvest rice. [00:06:57] And so when you think about what you're natural, like what is natural for you, what is your biology, your biology would be what it was 10,000 years ago because that's what we're meant to be. [00:07:13] Now I understand that there's a lot of things within this world that just are not. Like cars weren't available, computers weren't available, Internet wasn't available 10,000 years ago. I totally understand that. And maybe there are problems associated with that. If you're looking to reverse your diabetes, that is coming from food sourcing issue and considering or at least shooting to eat foods that were available 10,000 years ago. Primarily that's your diet, that's going to match your biology and that's going to normalize your metabolism. That's going to reverse your diabetes. It's that easy. Maybe you need to build more muscle mass because also what was going on back then is you were moving more, you were lifting heavy things, you were building, you had muscle on you. It was not available to human beings 10,000 years ago to sit on a couch and do nothing. That wasn't available to us because that would have been death. [00:08:05] And funny thing, today it's kind of death too. It's just slower, was slow with medications. [00:08:11] So that's really what I have for You, I do not have anything enlightening. I did think that article was very, very interesting. And I looked up a number of statistics kind of on obesity rates across the world and what we're seeing, and of course it was nothing shocking. We're seeing climbing obesity rates, climbing diabetes rates, climbing disease rates, climbing use of medications. [00:08:33] Like I said just recently is the first time in human history that's been recorded that we have more people dying from diseases of overconsumption than we have people dying from starvation, which is interesting. [00:08:48] I don't think we need more food in this country, in this world. I don't think we need more food. I think we probably need to consume less, we probably need to move more. So if you're interested in being healthy, if you're interested in better blood sugars, if you're interested in living a naturally healthy life, that is really the basic approach you're going to need to take. [00:09:07] That's really all I have for this last podcast. [00:09:11] If you've been a longtime listener, I appreciate you deeply. I appreciate emails, I appreciate emails that have come in since I announced that there was going to be no more podcasts and people interested in what's going on. [00:09:24] Yeah, I've changed a lot. I like, I've just changed my life a lot. I'm not working overnight in the ERs. I've taken two daytime Monday through Friday positions that kind of set me up financially to where I don't need to be working and I don't need to be working in ERs. I don't need to be working overnights. I don't need to constantly be trying to financially create more money, which is nice. It creates a lot of peace in my life and a lot of more of a consistent schedule for me. In addition, I get to sleep at night instead of being up in the middle of the night, which at age 50 is just becoming harder and harder and I don't think it's horribly healthy for me. So that's what I've been doing. [00:10:14] I met a man last year and he and I are getting married at the end of the year. So that's another really, I don't know, amazing experience that I've gotten to that's just taken a different my life in a different direction than it was two years ago or a year ago. So lots are going on. My babies are graduating, my 17 year old twins, they are graduating this year. [00:10:41] And so there's a lot of changes happening for me and the podcast. You know, I can't devote the time to it that I maybe would like to. But more than that, I find that I'm just saying the same thing over and over. There's nothing fancy, there's nothing that I haven't said that hasn't been said a thousand times. [00:11:01] Don't eat food that doesn't match your biology and get out and move and lift heavy. [00:11:06] That is the, those are the things you need to do if you're interested in better blood sugars. [00:11:14] We're not missing meds in our body. We're not missing some new technology. What we're missing is eating food that aligns with our biology, our cells, our organs, and we're missing movement and lifting things. That's what's wrong with our health in this country for the most part. I realize it's a pretty generalized statement, but most part do those things. If there's still a problem, then seek out something more. [00:11:38] That's my encouragement for you. I do deeply appreciate people who've listened to this podcast over the years and I appreciate all your kind words and questions. My email address, like the website and everything will be going away come the end of the year. So if you have anything, if you need anything between here and there, don't hesitate to email me. Delanet delanemd.com and do remember, if you are medicated for your diabetes, make sure you're contacting your doctor and keeping a close eye on blood sugars if you're going to make big changes to your diet because that can be dangerous with certain medications. [00:12:14] So I hope you I wish you all the best in the world and I certainly, I wish you all the best at health. Take care. Bye bye.
